SWAYAMBHUNATH STUPA

Swoyambhunath Stupa is exactly 1.8 miles west of Kathmandu on a hillock overlooking the Kathmandu valley. These are 2000 years old stupas..This is one of the most glorious Buddhist temples. It is decorated with the famous "Buddha's eyes", and is surrounded by temples and Tibetan monasteries. Swayambhunath, is among the oldest religious sites in Nepal. Swayambhunath is also known as the Monkey Temple as there are holy monkeys living in parts of the temple in the north-west. They are holy because Majusri, the bodhisattva of wisdom and learning was raising the hill which the Swayambhunath Temple stands on.Around this area mostly there is resident of Tamangs and Tibetian.
